Michael accepts briefs in all areas of law, with a particular interest in commercial, competition, regulatory, and public law.

Before being called to the Bar, Michael was Associate to the Hon Justice Wigney of the Federal Court of Australia and a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills, where he worked primarily on complex commercial litigation.  Prior to that, Michael practised at Clayton Utz and Clifford Chance, specialising in competition and consumer law, class actions, and regulatory proceedings and investigations.

Michael holds a Master of Laws (James Kent Scholar) from Columbia Law School, where he studied on a Fulbright Scholarship and received the Whitney North Seymour Medal.  Michael also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney, where he placed first in his combined LLB/BEc cohort.

Michael is the co-editor of a two-volume competition law text, Current Issues in Competition Law (The Federation Press, 2021).  He has published widely in peer-reviewed law journals—including in the areas of statutory interpretation, administrative and constitutional law, corporations, and private international law—and has been appointed Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Sydney Law School.
